WALTHAM, Mass. – Women’s basketball sophomore Hannah Nicholson of Sunderland, Vermont, has been named the December 13 Brandeis Athlete of the Week, presented by The Chateau Restaurant Group.
Nicholson led the Judges to a 2-0 week last week by averaging 15.5 points and six rebounds per game while shooting 80 percent from the field (8-10) and 88 percent from the line (14-16). On Dec. 4, Nicholson led the Judges to a 69-56 wire-to-wire win over local rival Babson College with a career-high 18 points and nine rebounds. She hit 4-of-4 from the field, including her first career 3-pointer, and 9-of-10 from the line. The win was Brandeis’s first over Babson since the 2009-10 season. On Dec. 9, Nicholson had 13 points and three boards in a 74-45 romp over Gordon College.
For the season, Nicholson leads the Judges in rebounding at 7.8 boards per game, and ranks second in scoring at 9.8 points per game. She ranks fifth in the University Athletic Association in field-goal percentage (53.6%) and sixth in rebounding. In addition to her Brandeis Athlete of the Week honor, Nicholson was named to the New England Women’s Basketball Association (NEWBA) Weekly Honor Roll.
Brandeis is led by head coach Carol Simon, who is in her 31st season. The Judges own a 6-2 record, their best eight-game start since the 2014-15 season. They return to action on Friday afternoon, December 29, with a 1 p.m. contest against Endicott College
