Lynne Dempsey was officially named the eight Director of Athletics in Brandeis history in May of 2016.
Dempsey is a 1993 Brandeis graduate who starred in soccer, basketball and softball for the Judges. She earned the program's Max I. Silber Award as the top female athlete as a senior. After a year as a part-time employee with the Judges, she returned to her alma mater full time in 1994 and has served the department of athletics in several capacities ever since. In 2004, she earned her M.M. from Brandeis's Heller School of Public Policy. Dempsey was named the Senior Associate Director of Athletics since 2011.
After a year as Acting Director of Athletics in which Brandeis hosted two NCAA events – the first two rounds of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer championships in November and the NCAA National Collegiate Fencing championships in March, Brandeis had five teams receive national rankings in 2015-16 – women's cross country, men's and women's soccer and men's and women's tennis.
Dempsey currently supervises the administrative and coaching staff and oversees the day-to-day operations of the department. Her other duties include NCAA compliance, corporate partnerships and working as liaison with Academic Services, Alumni Relations, Student Life, Public Safety, and Health and Wellness. Dempsey serves on several University committees, including the Committee on Academic Standing and the Personal Safety Committee. She also serves as the point person in the department with recruiting and admissions.
