2008-09 UAA Men's Basketball Team Previews

Brandeis University: Brandeis set school records with 23 wins overall and 10 wins in the Association in 2007-08, finishing one game behind the University of Chicago in the conference standings. While the Judges lose three starters, including 1,000-point scorer Joe Coppens and all-time assist leader Kwame Graves-Fulgham, they do return another 1,000-point scorer in Steve DeLuca, a two-time All-UAA selection who missed most of the 2007-08 season to injury. Junior forward Terrell Hollins, the squad's second-leading scorer (13.9 ppg) and top rebounder (5.9 rpg) returns to pace the frontcourt, while senior guard Kevin Olson (10.8 ppg, 53 3-pointers) is one of the league's top shooters. Junior Andre Roberson looks to take over the starting point-guard role after finishing second on the team with 77 assists. The Judges reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament last season. Brandeis opens the season on Nov. 17 at Lasell College in a rematch of the first-round NCAA tournament contest between the two school. The Judges' first home contest takes place on Nov. 25th, when they play their third-straight NCAA tournament team to open the season in UMass Dartmouth.

2008-09 UAA Women's Basketball Team Previews

Brandeis University: With the departure of 2008 UAA Co-Player of the Year Jaime Capra, the team will be looking elsewhere for players to carry the scoring load. Hoping to be able to take over the scoring load in the backcourt is second-team All-UAA selection Jessica Chapin (10.2 ppg), who is also one of the top defensive players in the conference finishing third in the Association, averaging 2.33 steals per game as a sophomore. She is also the top returnee with 56 assists. Senior forward Lauren Orlando was the team's top force in the paint, averaging 11.1 points per game in her first full season as a starter. Senior captain Cassidy Dadaos will provide leadership in the starting line-up. Junior Lauren Rashford should help control the ball at the point in place of honorable mention All-UAA Kiersten Holgash, while a crop of five local freshmen (three from Massachusetts and one from New Hampshire) will hope to make an impact. Brandeis is coming off a 19-8 campaign in which they reached the second round of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball tournament for the third year in a row. The Judges' 2008-09 campaign kicks off on Nov. 17 at 7:00 p.m. when they play host to WPI before hosting Bowdoin, Western Connecticut State and Widener (Pa.) in the Brandeis Tip-Off Tournament on Nov. 22-23. Brandeis takes on Widener at 6:00 on the 22nd.
