Beginning in 2012-13, Brandeis Athletics will partner with the Jewish Life Television (JLTV) cable network to provide coverage of the Judges nationwide.
JLTV, as part of its goal to expand sports programming within its diversified lineup, will begin reporting scores from Brandeis University athletic contests this fall. Brandeis, whose sports teams are known as the Judges, sponsors 19 intercollegiate sports. For both men and women, those sports include basketball, fencing, cross country, tennis, and indoor and outdoor track & field, soccer, and swimming & diving. The University also fields men's baseball and women's softball and volleyball teams.
Brandeis is a member of NCAA Division III, the largest of the three NCAA Divisions with 444 institutions. Brandeis teams have won national championships in men’s soccer and men’s cross country. More recently, the men’s and women’s basketball teams have each reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division III tournament.
The Judges compete in one of the most competitive conferences in Division III, the University Athletic Association, which also includes Carnegie Mellon University, Case Western Reserve University, Emory University, New York University, the University of Chicago, the University of Rochester and Washington University in St. Louis.
The University was named for Jewish Supreme Court Justice Louis D. Brandeis, one of the leading judicial figures of the 20th century. JLTV covers most of New England on Comcast, DirecTV and Time Warner Cable. The network has extensive coverage in all 50 states reaching nearly 40 million homes. Beginning this September, JLTV will highlight the University’s daily sports scores, along with producing and broadcasting profiles of the school's athletes and coaches. "JLTV is honored to join with Brandeis in bringing this esteemed university's sports programs to its student body and alumni, the Jewish Community and sports fans in general by way of our national network," commented Phil Blazer, JLTV President and CEO.
Sheryl Sousa, Director of Athletics at Brandeis, said, “We’re very pleased the JLTV will be highlighting our athletic programs, our student athletes and our coaches. It’s an opportunity to showcase the quality of our program and the student athletes experience at Brandeis.”
