Rising senior LauraBen Moore (fifth from left) of the Judges’ women’s rugby club, has earned a starting role on the USA Rugby Women’s Junior All-Americans (WJAA) team at the 2013 Under-20 Nations Cup and will be playing for a gold medal against Canada at noon Eastern on Sunday, July 21, in England.
After earning All-UAA honors, senior Faith Broderick and sophomore Carley Cooke will be headed to the NCAA Division III Doubles championships. They are the second Brandeis duo ever selected to the tournament and first since 2005.
The Judges had the Lancers down to their last strike, but seventh-seeded WSU picked up some clutch hits to knock of the second-seeded hosts. Amanda Genovese finished 2-3 with a triple and her 57th stolen base of the season.
The Judges turned a triple play in the fourth inning and took the lead in the bottom of the frame, but the visitors used two big innings. The loss snapped Brandeis's five-game winning streak in the final game of their seven seniors.
The Judges defeated Rochester, 8-1, and Case, 5-4, to win the consolation bracket at the UAA tournament in Florida. Sophomore All-American Carley Cooke went 6-0 to lead the Judges to a fifth-place finish for the second year in a row.
