SANFORD, Fla. -- Four different players had two RBI and
sophomore lefty Tyler Robinson (Manotick, Ontario) struck out six
in 8.1 innings of work today as the Brandeis University baseball
team bounced back from an earlier loss to defeat the University of
Rochester, 10-3, in a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest
played at Sanford Memorial Stadium in Sanford, Fla.
Brandeis (3-2, 2-2 UAA) got on the board quickly, as junior RF Ben
Dashefsky (Massapequa, N.Y.) singled home sophomore CF Chuck
Sheehan (Lexington, Mass.), who had walked. Sheehan drew a
bases-loaded walk in the second to force home senior C Phil
Aurigemma (Westborough, Mass.), who had been hit by a pitch.
Rochester (1-5, 0-3 UAA) got to Robinson in the third for the only
time all day, scoring three runs. One run came home on a Brandeis
error, another on a double steal with C Brian Palma coming home and
the third on a sacrifice fly by RF Frank Infuma.
The Judges bounced back in the sixth inning, sending 10 men to the
plate and scoring six runs. Aurigemma scored the tying run when the
Yellowjackets tried to pick off senior 1B Chris Navis (Walpole,
Mass.) and threw the ball away. Senior SS Zach Golden (Milton,
Mass.) drove in the game-winning run. Golden scored on a Dashefsky
double followed by junior DH Jon Winston's (Nanuet, N.Y.) first
home run of the season. Brandeis added two runs in the ninth inning
as Aurigemma doubled home LF Dave Almeida (Bridgeport, Conn.) and
Golden plated Navis later in the inning.
Robinson was able to survive giving up seven Rochester hits after
the 'Jackets' three-run third, stranding seven opponent runners. In
8.1 innings pitched, he gave up three runs all earned and struck
out six while walking none. Senior Aaron Landes (Southboro, Mass.)
got the last two outs to close the contest.
At the plate, Sheehan, Golden, Dashefsky and Winston all finished
with two RBI, while Navis, Sheehan and Aurigemma all crossed the
plate twice.
