SANFORD, Fla.-- The Brandeis baseball team split on the second day of the University Athletic Association championships. The Judges defeated Washington University, 13-11, thanks to home runs by rookie RF Chris Ferro (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) and senior DH Drake Livada (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) and 3.1 fine innings of shutout relief pitching by rookie Andrew Weissenberg (Demarest, N.J./Northern Valley Regional).
In their second game of the day, Brandeis fell to Case Western Reserve, 12-5, despite two more round-trippers despite a 3-for-5 performance from rookie centerfielder Nick Cortese (Guaynabo, P.R./Baldwin School of Puerto Rico) out of the lead-off spot.
Three different players went 4-9 on the day, with Ferro driving in five, and junior 3B Tony Deshler (Pepperell, Mass./Lawrence Acad.) crossing the plate five times with a double and a triple.
