Golfers place 27th overall, ninth in DIII, after Day 1 of NEIGA Championships

BREWSTER, Mass. -- The Brandeis University golf team shot a team score of 341 (+53) on the first day of action at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA), held at the Captain's Course in Brewster, Mass. The Judges sit in 27th place overall, ninth among Division III squads.

Leading the way for the Judges on the par-72 course is rookie Aaron Cusato (San Diego, Calif.), who is tied for 43rd place overall with a score of 80 (+8). Cusato is tied with four others for 12th place among Division III golfers. Other Brandeis scorers on the first day of action are sophomore Charles Sacks (Phoenix, Ariz.), who is in 112th place with an 85 (+13); senior Alex Podell (Los Angeles, Calif.) in 137th place at 87 (+15); and junior Lee Bloom (W. Hartford, Conn.) who shot an 89 to rank 155th. Senior Ralph Harary (Cotuit, Mass.) shot 90 to place 1665th.

There are 44 teams and 216 golfers at the NEIGA Championships. Brandeis is off to its best start at this event since 2005, when they were in 19th place after day one.
