On May 5, the Brandeis Department of Athletics held its annual End-Of-Year banquet. Eight outstanding senior student-athletes were presented awards, while two others were honored as senior speakers. Click the headline to read more!

Hughes, Dascy claim All-UAA men's basketball honors
Junior guard Tyrone Hughes and rookie center Youri Dascy represented the Brandeis men's basketball team on the 2011 All-University Athletic Association team. Hughes was a second-team All-Association honoree, while Dascy earned honorable mention. The Judges finished the season 19-9 after winning the 2011 ECAC Division III New England championship.

Men's hoops claims ECAC title, 65-50, over Eastern Conn.
The sixth-seeded Brandeis men's basketball team took to the road and claimed the third ECAC Division III New England title in program history today defeating top-seeded Eastern Connecticut State University, 65-50, in Willimantic, Conn. The Judges join the 1974 and 1992 squads with ECAC titles and finish the season with a 19-9 record. Rookie Ben Bartoldus was named tourney MVP.

Judges finish strong again, advance to ECAC finals with 76-66 win over MCLA
For the second night in a row, the Brandeis men's basketball team closed the game on a big run, outscoring Mass. College of Liberal Arts, 13-3, over the final 4:32 to earn a 76-66 win in the semifinals of the ECAC Division III New England tournament. The Judges improve to 18-9 on the season and will meet host Eastern Connecticut State University Sunday at 1 p.m. for the title.

Kriskus rallies men past Keene State, 84-77, in ECAC quarters
Junior guard Vytas Kriskus scored 17 points in the second half, including eight in a 59-second span, to help the Judges erase a seven-point deficit and take an 84-77 victory at Keene State in the quarterfinals of the ECAC Division III New England tournament. The Judges will take on Mass. College of Liberal Arts on Saturday at the site of the highest remaining seed.

Brandeis men earn sixth seed in ECAC tournament, headed to Keene State
The Brandeis men's basketball team will be headed to its first ECAC tournament since 1995 this week. The Judges, who finished 16-9, 6-8 and fifth place in the University Athletic Association, garnered the sixth seed and will travel to Keene State College for a 7 p.m. tip on Wednesday, March 2. More details will follow.

Men can't reclaim magic against NYU, drop regular-season finale, 70-54
The Brandeis men's basketball team got off to a hot start from deep, but the host NYU Violets were able to erase the memory of the Judges' come-from-behind dramatics from earlier this season to take a 70-54 victory in the regular-season finale for both teams. The Judges close the season at 16-9 and await word of a possible ECAC tournament berth.

Hughes tallies 22, but Judges can't complete comeback at WashU
Despite a career-high-tying 22 points from junior Tyrone Hughes, the Brandeis men's basketball team couldn't quite complete a 12-point comeback today, falling at Washington University, 77-75, in a University Athletic Association contest. Hughes had a fantastic first half with 13 points on 5-of-5 shooting with four 3-pointers.

Balanced attack leads Brandeis men past Chicago, 71-63, for first UAA road win
A season-high five different Brandeis men's basketball players scored in double figures tonight to lead the Judges past Chicago, 71-63, in a University Athletic Association contest. The win was the Judges' first on the road in UAA play and marked their second-straight season sweep of the Maroons.

Brandeis men rally from nine down to top Case, 55-53
Sophomore Jay Freeman paced the Brandeis bench to a 29-8 advantage over their counterparts from Case Western Reserve as the Judges defeated the Spartans, 55-53, in their final home contest of the regular season. The Judges came from nine points behind thanks to 10 points from Freeman and 11 from starter Youri Dascy, but 11 different Judges hit field goals.

Judges break out of offensive slump with 80-63 win over CMU
Four different players scored in double figures, including a career-high 16 points from sophomore transfer Anthony Trapasso, as the Brandeis men topped Carnegie Mellon, 80-63. The Judges had their highest scoring regulation and best shooting performance (57.7%) since November in snapping a four-game skid.

Judges can't climb out of early hole in 79-65 loss at Amherst
The Brandeis men trailed by as many as 21 points in the second half. They trimmed that margin to as little as seven points with just under four minutes to go, but could not complete the comeback against the third-ranked team in the nation, Amherst College, in a 79-65 defeat. Ben Bartoldus had 12 points and Alex Schmidt (pictured) had 11 for the Judges.

Men drop third straight, 77-57, at Rochester
Despite 17 points from rookie Ben Bartoldus and eight assists from junior Tyrone Hughes, the Brandeis men couldn't withstand a second-half onslaught for the second game in a row, falling to Rochester, 77-57. The Yellowjackets shot 56 percent, including 63 percent in the second half.

Despite 18 from Dascy, men's hoops outgunned by Emory, 85-70
The Brandeis men traded blows with host Emory in the first half and trailed by just two at the break, but the Eagles connected on 61 percent from the floor in the second to claim an 85-70 win and earn a split with the Judges. Rookie Youri Dascy scored 18 points and grabbed five boards, but couldn't offset five EU players in double figures.

Men's hoops falls to 0-3 on UAA Sundays with 77-64 loss to Rochester
The Brandeis men's basketball team lost their third-straight game on a Sunday afternoon today, dropping a 77-64 decision to Rochester. The Judges were paced by Derek Retos with 15 points and 14 from Youri Dascy, but could not overcome 19 turnovers and a 25-9 deficit in points off those miscues.

Freeman rescues Judges in 86-82 win over Emory
Four different Brandeis players scored in double figures, including a career-high 22 from junior guard Tyrone Hughes, but it was a key 3-pointer and rebound from sophomore Jay Freeman that handed the Judges an 86-82 overtime victory over visiting Emory in a University Athletic Association contest tonight. The Judges move to 13-3 with the win.

The Brandeis men had their worst game of the season on offense and defense today as the Judges suffered a 70-36 defeat at the hands of Washington University. Rookie Youri Dascy had eight points, while sophomore Wouter van der Eng (pictured) grabbed a career-high five rebounds.

Bartoldus's 20 leads No. 21 Brandeis men past Chicago, 59-53
Rookie Ben Bartoldus scored 15 of his team-high 20 points in the second half, including 10 in the first eight minutes, to lead the Judges past Chicago, 59-53, in University Athletic Association action today. The Judges snapped a two-game losing streak and sit just a game back in the UAA standings. Bartoldus is the fourth different Brandeis player to score 20 in a game this season.

Kanya scores 20 in first start, but No. 13 Judges can't complete comeback at Case
Rookie guard Ruben Kanya scored 15 of his career-high 20 points in the second half of his first collegiate start, but the 13th-ranked Brandeis men's basketball team couldn't come all the way back from a 11-point halftime deficit in a 66-63 loss to Case Western Reserve. The loss was the Judges' second in a row after winning their first 11.

Cold second half dooms No. 13 men to first loss, 53-52, at CMU
Thanks to a tough 4-for-22 shooting performance in the second half, the Brandeis men suffered their first loss of the season, 53-52, at the hands of Carnegie Mellon. The defeat halted the best start in school history at 11-0. The Judges had a chance to win on their final possession for the third time this season, but Ben Bartoldus's jumper in the lane was blocked. Tyrone Hughes led all scorers with 13 points.

No. 13 Brandeis tops Bates, 53-50, to set school record for best start
Behind 13 points from senior Christian Yemga and seven assists and six rebounds by junior guard Tyrone Hughes, the Brandeis men's basketball team defeated a pesky Bates College squad, 53-50, in Lewiston, Maine. With the win, the 13th-ranked Judges set a new record for best start to a season at 11-0, surpassing the 1956-57 squad.

For the second time this season, the Brandeis men's basketball team won a game at the buzzer. Rookie Derek Retos hit a 3-pointer from the corner to top NYU, 61-59, and improve the Judges to 10-0 on the season. Here's the footage of Retos's trey.

Looking to match the 1956-57 team for the best start in school history, the men's basketball team needed all 40 minutes to defeat rival NYU, 61-59. Trailing by 18 points with 10:50 to go, the Judges ended the game on a 23-3 run, capped by rookie Derek Retos's buzzer-beating 3-pointer from the corner that gave Brandeis its first lead of the contest.

Dascy's career-best 21 points, 11 rebounds lead No. 14 men past Emerson
Rookie Youri Dascy led all players with his first collegiate double-double, tallying 21 points and 11 rebounds as the Judges defeated Emerson, 65-54, in a tune-up for Saturday's UAA opener against NYU. Junior Tyrone Hughes added 15 points and rookie Ben Bartoldus had 11 in the victory.

Junior guard Tyrone Hughes had eight assists and seven points in the title game and averaged seven helpers per game as the Judges successfully defended their New England Big Four title with a 60-52 win over Tufts today. Rookie Youri Dascy reached double figures for the second-straight game with 14 points to also claim All-Tournament honors.

Eleven different Brandeis players broke into the scoring column tonight as the 19th-ranked Judges trounced visiting Framingham State, 73-47. Rookie Alex Stoyle (pictured) had a thunderous dunk in the second half as part of his career-high 10 points. Classmate Youri Dascy also had 10 for a career-best, tying Stoyle for team-high honors.

Junior guard Tyrone Hughes drove the length of the floor with 5.9 seconds and hit a running lay-up as time expired, using all of the backboard, to lift the 19th-ranked Brandeis men's basketball team past visiting Clark, 67-65, in Red Auerbach Arena tonight.

Hughes's late steal and free throws lead men's hoops past UMass Dartmouth, 71-69
Junior guard Tyrone Hughes made a key steal and hit a pair of free throws with 6.1 seconds left in regulation to lift the Judges past UMass Dartmouth, 71-69. Rookie Derek Retos hit three 3-pointers in each half to lead the Judges in scoring with 18 points as Brandeis snapped a three-game skid to the Corsairs.

Kriskus goes for career-high 35 to lead Brandeis past Curry in Judges Classic final
Junior Vytas Kriskus scored 22 of his career-high 35 points in the second half as he led the men's basketball team to victory, 81-69, in the title game of the Judges Classic. Kriskus hit 9-of-20 overall, 5-of-9 from deep and 12-of-13 from the line to claim MVP honors. Derek Retos also earned All-Tourney kudos with 11 points, including a big stretch with three 3-pointers.

Men's basketball wins home opener, 89-60, over Newbury
The Brandeis men's basketball team had four players score in double figures to defeat visiting Curry College, 89-60, in the Judges Classic opener. Vytas Kriskus had 19 points, while rookies Ben Bartoldus (14), Anthony Trapasso (13) and Derek Retos (12) also reached double figures. The Judges face Curry tomorrow in the title game.

Men's hoops has successful season opener, 73-51, at Lasell
Junior Vytas Kriskus recorded his first collegiate double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while rookie Alex Schmidt added 11 points and 12 boards as the men's basketball team pulled away from host Lasell, 73-51, in the season opener for both teams. A 20-4 run in the second half helped the Judges shut down the Lasers.
