CHICAGO, Ill. - Men's Basketball dropped a tough loss to the University of Chicago Maroons by a score of 77-67. Despite all five Brandeis starters recording double-digit points, the Judges could not hold off a very physical Chicago team. The Judges fall to 4-10 overall, 0-3 in the UAA. The Maroons improve to 6-8 overall, 2-1 in the UAA.
The Judges got off to a strong start, holding off Chicago in the first 10 minutes of the game. The starting five all added to the first 12 points for Brandeis, as they led by as much as seven in the first half of play. With 7:21 to play in the first half, Chicago tied the contest up 24-24 and never looked back.
The Judges trailed 39-34 going into the locker room at halftime. The Maroons kept them at bay for the remainder of the half, holding the Judges to a five point margin and leading by as much as 17 points.
Brandeis freshman Chandler Jones (Springfield, Mass./Springfield Commonwealth Academy) filled up the stat sheet, playing a career high 36 minutes. Jones tallied 11 points on 4-7 from the field, making 1-2 from three. The rookie grabbed eight rebounds, added three assists, and three steals in the contest. Senior Latye Workman (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bedford Academy) displayed his defense prowess in 23 minutes of play before fouling out with 3:44 to play. Workman scored 12 points on 6-10 shooting from the field. The senior also grabbed seven rebounds, dished out a pair of assists, and grabbed one takeaway.
Lawrence Sabir (Providence, R.I./LaSalle Academy), Collin Sawyer (New London, Conn./New London), and Nate Meehan (Lowell, Mass./Phillips Andover Academy) also recorded double-digit points with 13, 12, and 10, respectively. This was the first time that all five Brandeis starters scored in the double digits this season.
The Judges are back in action on Friday, January 19 as they host UAA rival Rochester at 8pm EST.
