CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Brandeis University men's soccer team
opened its 2005 conference play with a 1-1 draw against Case
Western Reserve University in a University Athletic Association
(UAA) contest today.
Brandeis (6-2-1, 0-0-1 UAA) opened the scoring in the 16th minute
when rookie forward Ed Colburn (Dover, Mass.) tallied his third
goal of the season. Junior midfielder Mike Snyder (Ashby, Mass.)
and sophomore back Brett Fitzgerald (Hubbardston, Mass.) were each
credited with assists.
Case (5-3-2, 0-0-1 UAA) found an equalizer just under 10 minutes
later. Senior midfielder Jarrod Predina (Seven Hills, Ohio) sent a
corner kick into the box in the 26th minute and rookie forward
Kevin Bigart (Naperville, Ill.) redirected the ball home with his
head. It was just the second goal allowed by the Judges in the
first half this season and the first goal allowed in 2005 by
sophomore goalkeeper Jake Knoll (Gardner, Mass.).
The host Spartans outshot Brandeis, 6-4, in the second half,
although the Judges had the only scoring attempt in the overtime
sessions. Knoll finished with six saves on the day, while Case
sophomore Chad Skidmore (Centerville, Ohio) made three stops.
