BOSTON, Mass. -- Brandeis University rookie forward Ben Premo
(Florence, Mass.) scored three goals in less than eight minutes,
one of the fastest hat tricks in Division III history, to lead the
Judges men's soccer team past host Wentworth Institute of
Technology, 6-1.
Brandeis (2-0) senior back Shelton Stewart (Clarendon, Jamaica)
opened the scoring in the third minute on an assist from fellow
co-captain Scott Zackaroff (Bath, Ohio). With the goal, Stewart
moved into at tie for fifth place on the school's all-time points
list with 92. Three minutes later, Premo went on his tear.
The rookie scored his first goal 5:42 into the contest, while the
second came just 27 seconds later at 6:09. Both of his first two
goals were unassisted. Premo's final goal came at the 13:17 mark on
a helper from senior midfielder Charles Goodhue (Wayland, Mass.).
The three goals in 7:35 is the second-fastest reported hat trick in
Division III history, while the 27 seconds between the first two
goals mark the fourth-fastest reported tallies in Division III.
Wentworth (1-2) scored the first goal of the season against the
Judges just under 15 minutes into the second half on a goal by
sophomore Nick Maryanopolous (Gloversville, N.Y.) on a feed from
junior forward Dan Marra (Sea Cliff, N.Y). Goodhue answered 21
seconds later, while junior Mike Snyder (Ashby, Mass.) rounded out
the scoring in the 72nd minute.
Senior Pat Makridakis (Mendon, Mass.) made four saves for his
second win in a row, while Wentworth's Brad Loew had five stops in
the losing effort.
