Men's soccer falls at Chicago, 2-0
CHICAGO, Ill. (taken from a UC press release) -- Junior forward
Andrew Hamilton (Springfield, Ill.) scored a pair of second half
goals to lead the University of Chicago men's soccer team to a 2-0
win over University Athletic Association rival Brandeis University
Sunday at Stagg Field.
In the 59th minute, Hamilton drew a foul in the box and converted the resulting penalty kick to give Chicago (10-4-3 overall, 2-2-2 UAA) the only goal it would need.
Hamilton added an insurance goal -- his seventh of the year -- when he took a pass from freshman midfielder Alex Takakuwa (Davis, Calif.) and scored from 10 yards out with 2:50 left in the match.
Brandeis (9-7-3, 1-5-0) outshot the Maroons 12-8, but sophomore goalkeeper Micah Gruber (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) made four saves for the Maroons to notch his first career shutout.
Rookie Taylor Bracken (No. Andover, Mass.) made one save for the Judges.
Chicago completed the home portion of its 2006 regular season slate with a record of 5-1-2 at Stagg Field.
