Mike Coven , the 2012 UAA and New England Division III coach of the year, is the only coach currently on the Brandeis staff to have won a national championship. In 1976, his Brandeis team won the NCAA Division III championship and he has guided nine of his teams to the NCAAs, including a second place finish in 1984 and a third place finish in 1981. In 2007, he became the 10th man in Division III history, and the second from New England, to register 400 career wins and in 2012 he reached the 450-win plateau. The 2012 Judges finished the season ranked No. 13 in the nation and reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division III tournament, their first NCAA berth since 1985. He has since guided the Judges to two more berths in the Sweet 16, including a spot in the Elite Eight in 2014, when the Judges set program records for consecutive wins, fewest goals allowed and most shutouts. 

Coven’s teams have won four ECAC Division III New England titles, in 1994, 2006 and back-to-back titles in 2010 and 2011. They have also reached the title game three other times. In his 42 years, Coven’s teams have received 27 post-season bids.

Coven has served as president of the New England College Soccer Coaches Association and the New England Intercollegiate Soccer League. He is a graduate of American International College. Prior to Brandeis, Coven coached at Newton South High School, winning Massachusetts Coach of the Year four times. He was also an assistant on the 1980 United States soccer team the won the silver medal at the Maccabiah game.
