Men's tennis drops second-straight battle of ranked teams, 8-1, to Pomona-Pitzer

CLAREMONT, Calif. -- In their third match of a five-match swing through California over February break, the Brandeis men's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision to Pomona-Pitzer Colleges. The showdown between the No. 30 Judges (2-2) and No. 20 Sagehens (2-0) was the second of three on the trip between nationally-ranked squads.

The Judges fell behind in doubles action, with the No. 1 team of seniors Simon Miller (Plantation, Fla./Plantation) and Nick White (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley), ranked No. 17 in the nation, suffered their first dual-match loss of the season, 8-3. Brandeis nearly picked up a point at No. 2 doubles, but sophomores Steven Milo (Woodbury,  N.Y./Syosset) and Dave Yovanoff (Eden, N.Y./Eden) fell victim to a late break and fell, 9-7.

In singles action, Pomona won four of their five points in straight sets. The Judges' lone win of the day came from Yovanoff earned Brandeis's lone point on the day with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 win at No. 4. White earned a first-set win, but couldn't hang on at No. 2, falling, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Brandeis takes on Chapman University on Thursday and will take a day off before taking on third-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Saturday afternoon.
