WALTHAM- Mass.- The 32nd-ranked Brandeis men's tennis team handedly took two wins on Sunday in their home matches against Le Moyne and Coast Guard. The Judges topped Le Moyne by a final score of 8-1 and Coast Guard by a final score of 7-2. The victories bring Brandeis to a record of 8-6 on the season, decisively taking their last four matches.
In the first leg of action, against Le Moyne, the Judges won two of three doubles matches with David Aizenberg (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) and Tyler Ng (Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck South) winning at the two slot and Jeff Cherkin (Melville, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East)and Eric Goldberg (Solon, Ohio/Solon) winning at the third position. Aizenberg and Ng won comfortably by an 8-4 margin and Cherkin/Goldberg topped their Dolphin opponents 8-6.
Brandeis swept Le Moyne in singles to shut the door on the Dolphins. Wins came from senior Ryan Bunis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Groton-Dunstable) at one, senior Brian Granoff (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) at two, senior Michael Arguello (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood) at three, sophomore Tyler Ng at four, freshman David Aizenberg at five, and freshman Benjamin Wolfe (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) at six. All but Ng's match were settled in two sets, with the sophomore's victory coming on a 10-8 tie breaker in the third set.
In the second matchup of the day, the Judges took on Coast Guard, where they took victories at the top two doubles slots. Arguello and Bunis won 8-5 at the first position and Granoff and sophomore Jackson Kogan (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Windward School) won at two doubles by a score of 8-4.
Singles victories were plentiful again, with the Judges taking five of their six singles matchups. Granoff won a the two spot, Arguello won 6-0, 6-0 at the three spot, and Wolfe and Kogan took victories at four and five respectively. Additionally, sophomore David Reinharz (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) captured his first collegiate victory on Sunday, winning in three sets on a 10-7 tiebreaker at six singles.
The Judges see their next action on Thursday, April 13th as they host Babson College at 3pm.
