WALTHAM, Mass. - The Brandeis University men's track and field team saw five members of the squad receive All-University Athletic Association honors at the 2009 UAA championships held at NYU on March 7. Four out of the five came in the men's distance medley race while the other came in the 5000-meter run. Despite their efforts, the Judges finished in seventh place in the seven-team field.
The Judges' best performances of the championships came in a pair of second-place finishes. The first came from sophomore Paul Norton of Amherst, Mass. Norton ran in the men's 5000-meter race with a final time of 14:50.75 earning his first career All-UAA honors.
The second came in the men's distance medley relay. The Judges squad was comprised of senior Matt Jennings of Sudbury, Mass., sophomore Devon Holgate of Cumberland, R.I., and a pair of rookies in Marc Boutin of Westford, Mass., and Mingkai Lin of Belmont, Mass. They completed the DMR in a time of 10:10.19 to earn All-UAA accolades. Their time was seven seconds short of the winning time (10:03.72) put forth by Carnegie Mellon and beat out Emory University by a second. Individually, Holgate also earned Brandeis a point by placing sixth in the mile run with a time of 4:17.90.
Norton is a 2007 graduate of Amherst Regional High School. He is the son of David and Claire Norton of Amherst, Mass.
Jennings is a 2005 graduate of Lincoln-Sudbury High School. He is the son of Donald and Catherine Jennings of Sudbury, Mass.
Holgate is a 2007 graduate of Cumberland High School. He is the son of David and Denise Holgate of Cumberland, R.I.
Boutin is a 2008 graduate of Westford Academy. He is the son of George and Grace Boutin of Westford, Mass.
Lin is a 2008 graduate of Belmont High School. He is the son of Jun Lin and Ning Wu of Belmont, Mass
