John Evans will begin his seventh season as head cross country coach and track and field in 2010-11. A 1989 graduate of Providence College, Evans was a three-time Big East and IC4A champion in several events and an All-American in the 1,500-meter run. In the past seven years, he has helped Brandeis place seven individual athletes at the NCAA cross country championships. In 2008 and 2009, he guided both the men's and women's cross country squads to national rankings, with the men earning back-to-back NCAA championship berths, their first in 10 years. Evans also helped coach six University Athletic Association (UAA) Rookies of the Year - Mekonen Gendebo '11 in 2007 and Marc Boutin '12 in 2008 for cross country and Ryan Parker ‘06 in 2003, Linda Kropp ‘07 in 2004, Geff Fauchet ‘08 in 2005 and Anat Benun ‘09 in 2006 for track and field. Prior to coming to Brandeis, Evans coached at Providence, and with the Boston Running Club, Nike Boston and Team New Balance. Ten of his athletes have competed in the World Championships the Olympic Games and other international competition, including his wife Sinead, who represented Ireland in 1996 and 2000.
