Softball suffers 12-2 loss at the hands of No. 15 Emory

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. -- The Brandeis University softball team was unable to win its third-straight University Athletic Association (UAA) contest today, dropping a 12-2 decision in five innings against 15th-ranked Emory University.

Emory (13-4, 3-2 UAA) scored three runs in the first and third innings and two in the fourth to jump out to an 8-0 lead. Brandeis (2-3, 2-3 UAA) managed their two runs on just three hits in the bottom of the fourth. The Judges scored both runs in the fourth inning. Sophomore DP Victoria Roomet (Jamaica, N.Y.) walked to lead off the inning, followed by a double to right-center field by junior RF Natalie Volpe (Southington, Conn.). Junior pitcher Kaitlin Streilein (Point Pleasant, N.J.) singled to get Brandeis on the board, while Volpe came home on a wild pitch.

Emory had four players with two hits, paced by sophomore 1B Kim Bandy, who was 3-3 with three RBI and a run scored. Junior 2B Ali Braverman was 2-2 with two RBI and a run scored, knocking in what proved to be the winning runs in the first inning.

Streilein suffered the loss for Brandeis, falling to 1-2 on the season, as she allowed 10 hits and eight earned runs in 3.2 innings of work.
