Fitchburg State snaps Brandeis softball's six-game win streak, 6-3
WALTHAM, Mass. -- The Brandeis University softball team saw its
six-game winning streak come to a close today as the Judges dropped
a 6-3 decision to the visiting Fitchburg State College Falcons on
Brandeis (8-9), playing as the visiting team because the game was moved from Fitchburg, opened the scoring in the top of the second inning. With one away, sophomore LF Vicki Roomet (Jamaica, N.Y.) singled to score classmate 3B Samantha Worth (Londonderry, N.H.).
The Falcons answered with two runs in the bottom of the third. Senior 2B Danielle McDonald (Brockton, Mass.) tied the game with an RBI single, while senior SS Keri Kravetz (West Bridgewater, Mass.) put FSC ahead with a run-producing double.
Brandeis tied the game in the top of the fourth after Roomet led off with a double and came home two batters later on a single by junior pitcher Kaitlin Streilein (Point Pleasant, N.J.). Kravetz then gave Fitchburg State the game-winning runs in the fifth with her third home run of the season, a two-run shot. The Judges got one run back in the sixth on rookie 1B Allie Mussen's (Franklin Square, N.Y.) second round-tripper of the season, cutting the lead to 4-3. FSC added two insurance runs in the bottom of the frame to ice the contest.
Kravetz was the big hitter of the day for Fitchburg State, going 2-3 with three RBI and a run scored. She had two of the Falcons' extra-base hits with her double and home run.
