Softball drops New England opener, 2-0, at Wellesley
WELLESLEY, Mass. (taken from a Wellesley College press release)
-- Jenna Harvey (London, Ontario) threw a two-hit shutout to lead
the Wellesley College softball team to a 2-0 victory over Brandeis
University this afternoon at Wellesley College. The Judges fall to
2-7 with the loss in their first contest up North. The Blue now
stand at 7-4 on the season.
Wellesley took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, when Kara
Wong (Milford, Mass.) doubled to center, driving in Amanda Tai
(Melrose, Mass.), who had singled and stolen second. The Blue
struck again in the fifth, as Ilana Orloff (Weston, Mass.) reached
on a fielder's choice, stole second, and then advanced to third on
a passed ball. Ashley Bulseco (Princeton, Mass) singled up the
middle, driving in Orloff and giving the Blue a 2-0 lead. With
Harvey on the mound, that proved to be plenty, as she struck out
three in the final two innings to seal the win.
Chelsea Korp (Worcester, Mass.) and Natalie Volpe (Southington,
Conn.) singled for the Judges. Kaitlin Streilein (Point Pleasant,
N.J.) gave up eight hits and two runs in the loss. Wong led
Wellesley with three hits, including an RBI double. On the mound,
Harvey allowed two hits, no runs, and struck out 14 to snag her
fourth win of the season.
