Cagar adds two All-New England honors
Sophomore 2B Melisa Cagar was named to a pair of All-New England teams this season. The Judges' leading hitter and single-season record holder with 32 stolen bases was named a first-team All-Region selection by the NFCA and the NEISCA.

Softball tops Plymouth State but falls to Keene State in ECAC finals
Rookie Brittany Grimm had the game-winning two-run hit as the softball team defeated Plymouth State, 6-3, to advance to the title game of the ECAC Division III New England tournament. The Judges were unable to defend their crown, however, falling to Keene State, 11-1, in five innings in the championship game.

Softball downs WNEC, falls to Keene State in ECAC tourney
The top-seeded Brandeis softball team trounced Western New England College, 11-3, in their first double-elimination game of the ECAC tournament thanks to two home runs by sophomore 1B Courtney Kelley, her second and third of the tournament. The Judges were sent to the loser's bracket by Keene State, 6-3.

Softball puts four on All-UAA team
Four members of the Brandeis University softball team have been selected as All-University Athletic Association members by the league's coaches. Sophomore 2B Melisa Cagar was a first-team selection, while junior catcher Erin Ross, sophomore 1B Courtney Kelley and rookie outfielder Samantha Gajweski were second-team honorees.

Vaillette, Kelley lead Judges past Curry, 1-0, in ECAC Quarterfinals
Junior pitcher Emily Vaillette and sophomore 1B Courtney Kelley led the way today as the top-seeded Brandeis University softball team defeated eighth-seeded Curry College, 1-0, in the opening round of the 2009 ECAC Division III New England Softball Championships.

Brandeis student-athletes claimed three UAA Athlete of the Week honors for the week ending May 2. Sophomore 1B Courtney Kelley and junior pitcher Emily Vaillette were selected as the softball player and pitcher of the week, while senior Ali Sax was recognized for women's outdoor track and field.

Brandeis softball earns top seed in ECAC Tournament
For the second year in a row, the Brandeis softball team has earned the top seed in the ECAC Division III New England tournament. The Judges, at 25-15, will face eighth-seeded Curry College (27-16) at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, as they attempt to defend their title.

Brandeis blasts by Emerson for dramatic softball sweep
Junior SS Chelsea Korp hit a two-out two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning, one of six Brandeis blasts on the day, that gave the Judges a dramatic 10-9 win over Emerson in the first game of a doubleheader. The Judges trounced the Lions, ranked No. 3 in the Northeast region, in game two, 8-3.

Brandeis softball splits with No. 5 Tufts to spoil Jumbos' perfect season
Sophomore 1B Courtney Kelley had a clutch two-out RBI double and the softball team hung on to defeat fifth-ranked Tufts, 2-1, in the second game of a doubleheader. The Jumbos, who won game one, 3-0, were 35-0 and looking to complete an undefeated regular season.

Softball falls twice to RIC, 9-4 and 4-1
Despite a 4-7 performance from sophomore 2B Melisa Cagar, improving her team-leading batting average to .423, the Brandeis softball team lost twice to one of the top squads in New England, Rhode Island College, 9-4 and 4-1.

Brandeis schedule changes, April 22
Because of inclement weather, the Brandeis-Amherst baseball game scheduled for April 21 at 3:30 p.m. has been postponed. It will be made up on Monday, April 27 at 4 p.m. Additionally, the game scheduled for April 23 at Roger Williams University has been cancelled so that RWU can make up a conference game. There is no make-up date scheduled.

Softball picks up two wins over Pine Manor, 5-0 and 4-3
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Brandeis University softball team swept Pine Manor in Monday’s doubleheader. The Judges won the first game 5-0 and came back in the second game for a 4-3 victory. With the two wins, Brandeis is 10 games over .500 with a record of 22-12 while Pine Manor falls to 18-18 on the season.

Brandeis softball takes two from Wesleyan, 4-3, 1-0
WALTHAM, Mass. –The Brandeis softball team won both games of a doubleheader over Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon. The Judges scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to win the first game, 4-3, and then took the second game, 1-0, in a tight one. With the two wins, Brandeis is now 20-12 on the season while Wesleyan drops to 11-17 on the year.

Softball downs Salve Regina, 7-3 and 9-0
Sophomore Melisa Cagar went 5-for-7 with three runs scored and two RBI to lead Brandeis University to a doubleheader sweep of Salve Regina University in non-conference action Thursday at Toppa Field. The Judges won game one, 7-3, and game two, 9-0.

Brandeis sweeps Wheaton as Johnson earns first win over alma mater
Head coach Jessica Johnson guided the Brandeis softball team to a sweep of her alma mater today as the Judges defeated Wheaton College, 10-5 and 3-2, in Norton, Mass. It was the first meeting between the two teams since 1997.

Miller named UAA, NEISCA Pitcher of the Week
Rookie Caroline Miller became the first Brandeis player of 2009 to earn UAA Softball and New England Intercollegiate Softball Coaches Association (NEISCA) Pitcher of the Week honors. She went 3-0 with a 0.37 earned run average in a 5-1 week for the Judges.

The Brandeis softball team took advantage of timely errors and aggressive base running to defeat Bowdoin in a doubleheader today. The Judges scored 11 unearned runs and stole six bases in defeating the Polar Bears, 7-4 and 5-4 in eight innings.

Vaillette no-hitter leads softball to sweep of Framingham State
Junior Emily Vaillette tossed the Judges' first no-hitter in three years, and the first to go all seven innings in more than seven years, as the softball team swept Framingham State, 8-1 and 6-0.

Softball drops opener to WPI, 3-1, but rallies for split with 8-3 win
Rookie hurler Caroline Miller hit a home run in her third collegiate at bat today, helping the Brandeis softball team earn a split with WPI in Worcester. Miller also tossed three innings of shutout ball as the Judges won game two, 8-3, after losing, 3-1, in the opener.

The Brandeis softball team picked up its first extra-inning win of the season, topping Clark University, 3-2, in eight frames in the opener of a doubleheader. The Cougars tallied an unearned run in the first inning and held the Judges at bay in the nightcap, 1-0.

Softball back to the .500 mark on the season with a pair of wins over Lasell
The Brandeis University softball team visited Lasell College for a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. They won the first game, 3-2, and followed it up with an 8-3 victory in the second. With these wins, the Judges climb to 7-7 overall while Lasell drops to 5-7 on the season.

Cagar, Ross earned UAA All-Tournament honors
On March 10-14, the Brandeis softball team competed in the 2009 University Athletic Association Softball Championship Tournament in Altamonte Springs, Fla. Junior C Erin Ross of Manalapan, N.J., and sophomore 2B Melisa Cagar of Ridgewood, N.J., were named to the All-Tournament team for their efforts in Florida.

Softball sweeps Wellesley, 4-2 and 4-0, in New England opener
The Brandeis softball team swept the only non-conference foe to hand them multiple losses in 2008, downing Wellesley College, 4-2, and 4-0, on the road today. The games were the first of the Northern part of the schedule for the Judges, who improved to 5-7 on the campaign.

Sophomore 2B Melisa Cagar went 5-for-8 with three runs, two steals and her fifth career home runs today as the Judges split a pair of UAA softball contests. Brandeis defeated Case Western Reserve, 6-2, but fell to WashU, 6-1.

The Brandeis softball team put up three runs in the fifth inning today to earn their first win in four tries against a nationally-ranked foe, downing 16th-ranked Rochester, 3-2, in a University Athletic Association contest. The Judges then extended No. 8 Emory to extras with a seventh-inning rally, but fell short, 6-2

Junior catcher Erin Ross hit her first home run of the season and the Judges held a brief 3-2 lead over defending UAA champion Washington University, but the Bears scored eight runs in the fifth, seven of them unearned, to take an 11-3 conference victory.

Eleven different players had hits today as the Brandeis softball team snapped a brief three-game losing streak with an 8-2 University Athletic Association (UAA) triumph over Case. Brandeis improves to 1-3 on the season, 1-1 in the UAA.
