Brandeis Softball announces Class of 2015

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Brandeis University softball coach Jessica Johnson announced that four student-athletes will join the Judges' program as freshmen for the 2012 season.  The four players hail from three different states: Cori Coleman (Burr Ridge, Ill./Hinsdale South)Nikki Cote (Shelton, Conn./St. Joseph)Amanda Genovese (North Haven, Conn./North Haven)  and Anya Kamber (Sammamish, Wash./Skyline)

"We are all extremely excited about the incoming class, comprised of a very talented group of young women who will bring depth and enthusiasm to all facets of our program," said Johnson, who is 138-74-3 (.642) in five seasons at Brandeis. "Their commitment level both on the field and in the classroom will be a great fit and they should play an integral part in continuing our successes pretty immediately."

The Brandeis University softball team completed the 2011 season with a 20-18-1 overall record, and qualified for the ECAC Tournament, marking the fifth straight year the Judges have made the post-season. The Judges also placed third in the University Athletic Association (UAA).

CORI COLEMAN 

Catcher/Utility • R/R • 5-4 • Burr Ridge, IL (Hinsdale South)
HIGH SCHOOL: Three-year letterwinner in softball at Hinsdale South High School where she also lettered in Volleyball and Basketball… Named All-Conference and All-Academic All-Conference for softball and was honored with the Sportsmanship award in basketball…Named to the Deans List all eight semesters and was a member of the National Honor and Spanish National Honor Societies.  PERSONAL: Daughter of Jill and Randy Coleman.  Two older brothers, Benjamin, 25, and Adam, 24… Plans to major in Business.

AMANDA GENOVESE
1B/U • S/R • 5-7 • North Haven, CT (North Haven)
HIGH SCHOOL: Three-year letterwinner in softball at North Haven High School and twice earned All-League honors… Amassed a 1.000 fielding percentage at first base her senior year while batting .417 and serving as team captain…  Selected for the Senior All-Star Game and Scholar Athlete Classic for her senior year efforts…  National Honor Society and Latin Honor Society member, an AP and CAPT Scholar, as well as Wellesley Book Award and Indian Service Award winner…  Also lettered in Fencing at North Haven as a First-Team All-State fencer in Foil with a 4th place finish in state competition and E2010 ranking in foil…  Spent seven years with the CT Hornets travel ball organization and the last two with the CT Outlaws, batting .641 for them last year. 

PERSONAL: Daughter of Caren and Mark Genovese.  One older brother, Steven, 22… Plans to major in Health: Science, Society, and Policy.

NIKKI COTE

P/Utility • R/R • 5-3 • Shelton, CT (Saint Joseph's)
HIGH SCHOOL: Four-year letterwinner in softball for the Saint Joseph Cadets who won the Class M State Championship in 2010 while Cote was named the ESPN Radio Player of the Game… Also lettered in Cross Country and raced as a downhill skier, which she now teaches…  Named to the Principal's Honor Roll all four years and was also honored as an All Athlete Scholar. 

PERSONAL: Daughter of David and Cheryl Cote… Plans to major in Biology.

ANYA KAMBER

3B/SS • R/R • 5-7 • Sammamish, WA (Skyline)
HIGH SCHOOL: A four-year letterwinner in softball, culminating in a senior year in which she captured the school record in hits while batting .551 and being named team MVP while captaining the squad…  Nominated as a 4A Kingco League 1st Team third baseman her senior year and earned Honorable Mention as a junior…  Also letter two years in volleyball, as a sophomore and a junior…  Recognized as a scholar athlete all four years of high school by maintaining a GPA of 3.5 or better...  Plays summer ball as the starting third baseman for the Northwest Lady Sharks.   

PERSONAL: Daughter of Peter and Tracey Kamber…  One twin brother, Evan, a soccer player at Vassar College…  Undecided in her major.
