WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University junior Morgan Kendrew of Cotuit, Mass., and senior forward Amber Strodthoff of DePere, Wis., have been selected to the 2011 All-University Athletic Association women's basketball team. Kendrew was a second-team All-UAA selection at guard, while Strodthoff was an honorable mention selection at forward.
Kendrew, who started all 25 games for the Judges, previously earned honorable mention All-UAA honors in 2010. This season, she led the Judges in scoring, averaging a career-best 12.9 points per game, sixth-highest in the conference. She also finished fifth in the circuit in free-throw percentage, hitting 82.8 percent from the line (72-87), and will enter the 2011-12 season second on the Judges' career list at 80.9 percent (152-188). Kendrew led the team with 35 3-pointers, ninth in the UAA, putting her seventh on the Brandeis career list with 87 trifectas. She was the team's leading scorer 16 times this season, including three 20-point performances. Kendrew tallied a career-high 26 points on Jan. 28 in a 76-67 UAA win over Emory University.
Strodthoff, who also started every game, is an honorable-mention All-UAA selection for the second year in a row. She was second on the team in scoring, averaging 9.0 points per game, and led the squad with 6.0 rebounds per contest, tied for eighth in the league. Strodthoff also led the Judges with a career-high 20 blocked shots and was second with 23 steals. She led the Judges in scoring three times and in rebounding nine times. Strodthoff had the team's top two rebounding performances of the season, grabbing 14 against Emory on Jan. 28 and 13 against Roger Williams University on Dec. 4. She also had a fine performance in a 57-54 win over rival NYU in Brandeis's season finale on Feb. 26, scoring 17 points and pulling down six boards in the Judges' second-straight win in the Big Apple. Strodthoff ends her career with 657 points and 493 rebounds, just shy of cracking the program's top 10. She is sixth in career blocked shots with 41 and seventh with a .744 career free-throw percentage.
The Brandeis women's basketball team finished the 2010-11 season with a record of 12-13, 4-10 in the UAA in head coach Carol Simon's 24th season at the helm. They also had the closest game of the season against Babson College, who enters the NCAA tournament with an undefeated record, taking the Beavers to overtime on a late Kendrew 3-pointer, before bowing, 62-59.
