Fencing Team Wins Second Overall at the New England Intercollegiate Fencing College (NEIFC) Championships

The Brandeis Women's Fencing Team won the Silver Medal at the New England Championships at Mount Holyoke College last Sunday. Competing against fourteen other schools, two squads finished among the top four, with epee in second and saber in third.

The epee squad had a strong day, earning silver while sweeping UMass, Boston College, who took gold for best overall team, and Dartmouth. Senior Emma Larkin (Upper Montclair, NJ/ Montclair Kimberly Academy) and rookies Kristin Ha (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale CS) and Leah Mack (Tarrytown, N.Y./Irvington) all qualified for the individual round in epee. Larkin went 10-4, coming in fifth overall in the individual round.

In saber, the squad went 2-1 against eventual champions Boston College, while additionally sweeping Boston University, Dartmouth, and University of Massachusetts. Senior Anna Hanley (Medford, Mass./Lexington Christian) had the best record of the saber squad, going 12-2 to qualify for the individual round. The foil squad had many wins as well, going 2-1 against bronze medal team Sacred Heart University while sweeping Tufts, University of Massachusetts, and bronze overall team MIT. Sophomore Vikki Nunley (Glen Gardner, NJ/ Voorhees) of the foil squad had a successful day, winning eleven of her fourteen bouts to compete in the individual round. In the championships, she took fourth overall.
