Men's swimming and diving trounces WPI, 155-120, to close regular season


WALTHAM, Mass. -- The Brandeis University men's swimming and diving team won 10 of 16 events tonight as the Judges closed out the regular season with a 155-120 win over WPI. The Judges improve to 5-3 while the Engineers fall to 4-5.

Brandeis was paced by sophomore sensation James Liu (Longmeadow, Mass.), who captured the 100-yard freestyle in 48.92 seconds and the 100-yard butterfly in 54.47 seconds. Rookie Eli Tukachinsky (Jefferson, Mass.) swept the breaststroke events, taking the 100 in 1:06.15 and the 200 in 2:25.06. Sophomore Alex Cemaj (Omaha, Neb.) won both one-meter diving events with scores of 121.60 in the required dives and 123.35 in the optionals. Rookie Aaron Bennett (Setauket, N.Y.) took the 200 butterfly in 2:02.49. Finally, senior Nick Rice (Quincy, Mass.) won the 50-yard freestyle in the final home meet of his career with a time of 22.90 seconds.
