Liu paces Brandeis men at UAA Championships

At the men's Unviersity Athletic Association championships,
sophomore James Liu of Longmeadow, Mass., turned in three top-16
performances as the Judges finished in 8th place at the University
of Rochester. Liu finished seventh in the 100-yard butterfly,
giving him the top performance of the meet for the men. Liu
improved on the third-fastest time in Brandeis history in the event
with his 52.30 seconds in the prelims. His finals time was 52.40
seconds. He also took 10th place in the 50-yard freestyle with a
time of 21.67 seconds and 12th place in the 100-yard freestyle
event with a time of 47.69 seconds after a time of 47.58 seconds in
the prelims.
The Judges' other top performances came in the 200-yard butterfly,
where rookie Josh Klitenick of Bridgewater, N.J., finished in 13th
place with a time of 1:59.73. He also placed 15th in the 100 fly
with a time of 53.38 seconds and 21st in the 200-yard individual
medley with a time of 2:00.28. His time of 1:59.93 in the prelims
was the third-fastest time in Brandeis history. Classmate Aaron
Bennett of Setauket, N.Y., actually had a faster performance in the
event in winning the C finals with a time of 1:58.51, the 12th
fastest time of the meet.
