Judges drop second straight overtime decision, 2-1, to Babson

WALTHAM, Mass. -- The Brandeis University women's soccer team dropped its second-straight 2-1 overtime decision today, falling to Babson in their home opener on Gordon Field.

The Brandeis women (0-2) took the early lead in the fourth minute. Senior forward Lisa Kaplin (Armonk, N.Y.) headed home a cross from rookie Melissa Gorenkoff (Woodbury, N.Y.) for her second goal of the season and the 28th of her career. With the tally, Kaplin moved into a tie for sixth on the Judges all-time scoring list.

Babson (2-0) responded in the 28th minute when junior midfielder Meg Lynch (Holden, Mass.) put home a goal through a scrum in front of the net. The Beavers had the better of play in the second half, outshooting Brandeis, 6-2, but were unable to take advantage. In the first overtime period, Babson drew a foul deep in the Judges zone and used it to perfection as rookie Anna Collins (Winchester, Mass.) slipped behind the Brandeis defense to head in her second goal of the season.

Brandeis rookie goalkeeper Hilary Rosenzweig (Boca Raton, Fla.) made four saves in the losing effort, while Beaver rookie Sam Scarpato (Weston, Mass.) improved to 2-0 in her career with five stops.
