Women's soccer gets blanked by Rochester, 2-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – The University of Rochester women's soccer team scored once in each half to defeat host Brandeis University, 2-0, in the University Athletic Association (UAA) opener for both teams tonight.

Rochester (5-3, 1-0 UAA) opened the scoring in the 25th minute. Senior forward Ali Streeter (Fulton, N.Y.) slotted a ball to classmate Tammy Brewster (Ballston Spa, N.Y.), who knocked it home for her third goal of the season. Brandeis (6-2-1, 0-1 UAA) outshot Rochester, 7-6 for the half, but were unable to find the back of the net.

The Yellowjackets added an insurance goal in the 74th minute. Following a UR corner kick, the ball was deflected around the front of the goalie box before rookie back Meaghan Magee (Rochester, N.Y.) sent it home for her first score of the season. Rochester controlled the second half, outshooting the Judges, 7-4, to finish with a 13-11 advantage.

Brandeis sophomore Hillary Rosenzweig (Boca Raton, Fla.) suffered the loss despite making four saves. Rochester senior Molly Leitch (Rocky River, Ohio) also had four stops for her third shutout of the campaign.

Both teams are in non-conference action for their next contest. Brandeis travels to Tufts University on Wednesday at 4 p.m., while Rochester kicks off a five-game home-stand against SUNY-Geneseo on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
