WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University senior Taryn Martiniello of Wilmington, Mass., of has been selected to the ESPN Academic All-District I College Division Women's Soccer second team by the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA).
Martiniello, a senior defender and tri-captain, has started in all 81 games in her career, playing in every minute of every contest but one in that span. She is an All-UAA honorable mention and All-New England fourth team selection in 2009. This season, Martiniello has two goals and an assist for five points, giving her three goals and seven assists for her career. Defensively, she has helped Brandeis post a 0.66 goals-against average, third-lowest in the UAA, and nine shutouts, tied for the league lead.
"Taryn is one of the most consistent and complete players I have had in my tenure at Brandeis," said head coach Denise Dallamora, who is in her 31st season on the Judges' sideline. Martiniello and the Judges currently boast a 13-4-1 record, 3-3 in the UAA, and are ranked 25th in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) national Division III poll. The Judges wrap up their regular season this Saturday at 11 a.m. at New York University. The game will be played at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, N.Y.
Off the field, Martiniello is a three-time University Athletic Association (UAA) All-Academic selection who carries a 3.67 grade-point average as an economics and business double major with a minor in Italian studies. She has been named to Brandeis's Dean's List every semester and is an active member of Brandeis's annual Relay For Life.
To be eligible for Academic All-District honors, players must be at least a sophomore in academic standing with a cumulative grade-point average higher than 3.30. District I College Division consists of Division II and III institutions from New England and New York.
Martiniello is a 2007 graduate of Wilmington High School. She is the daughter of Anthony and Wendy Martiniello, Wilmington, Mass.
