WALTHAM, Massachusetts — Three Brandeis University student-athletes have earned University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week honors for the third week of competition ending Sept. 18.
- Senior goalkeeper Alexis Grossman of Syosset, New York, was named UAA Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. Grossman earned the honor for the second time this season and third time in her career. She backstopped the Judges – ranked third in New England and 13th nationally by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America - to two wins against NSCAA regionally-ranked opponents as they improved to 7-0 on the season. Grossman made four stops in the second half of a 5-0 win over #4 Eastern Connecticut State last Tuesday, then had three saves in a 2-1 win over #9 Wentworth, despite seeing Brandeis's scoreless streak snapped at 553 minutes. Grossman is ranked second in the UAA in goals-against average (0.15) and save percentage (.950), ranking 12th and 18th respectively, in all of Division III women's soccer. Grossman is a 2013 graduate of Syosset High School.
- Junior forward Samantha Schwartz of Highland Park, Illinois, earned UAA Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career. Schwartz scored three goals in the Judges' 2-0 week. She had her second career two-goal game with Brandeis's second and fourth scores against Eastern Connecticut State University on Sept. 13. On Sept. 15, Schwartz scored the equalizer 2:09 into the second half of a 2-1 win over Wentworth after the Judges had surrendered their first goal of the season in the first half. Schwartz moved into a tie for fourth place in the UAA with four goals on the season. Schwartz is a 2014 graduate of Highland Park High School.
- Sophomore Emily Bryson of Quincy, Massachusetts, was recognized for the women's cross country team for the second time this season and the fifth in her career. Bryson finished third overall at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday, bettering her fifth-place finish from 2015 and shaving 19 seconds off her time, finishing the 5K course in 17:50.83. Bryson helped the Judges top the 33-team field with 99 points, successfully defending their title at the race. Bryson is a 2015 graduate of North Quincy High School.
