BRUNWSICK, Maine -- Senior Anat Benun (Haifa, Israel/Ironi-Hey), competing at Bowdoin College in her first meet in more than a year because of injury, qualified for the NCAA Division III championships in the triple jump for the third time in her career.
Benun, one of six individual winners in a 76-64 loss to the Polar Bears, won the triple jump with a distance of 11.66 meters (38 feet, 3.25 inches). The distance was 3.5 inches short of an automatic qualification for NCAAs and was the second-best in Division III this season. Benun is a two-time All-American in the triple jump.
Other winners for Brandeis included sophomore Lucia Capano (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Central) in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.76 seconds; sophomore Michelle Gellman (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchhill) in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:02.63; sophomore Hannah Lindholm (Madison, Wis./West High) in the mile run with a time of 5:24.73; senior Ali Sax (Lincoln, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9.22 seconds, just edging rookie Kayley Wolf (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming) by 0.06 seconds; and junior Suzanne Bernier (Hanson, Mass./Whitman-Hanson) in the high jump with a height of 1.62 meters (5 feet, 3.75 inches).
