WALTHAM, Mass.- Three Brandeis University student-athletes have been honored as University Athletic Association (UAA) Athletes of the Week for the week of December 12, 2011.
Senior Kate Warwick of Boxborough, Mass. was selected as the Women's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week. She earned the award by winning the 3,000 meter race at the 2011 Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational on Saturday. Warwick won the race with a time of 10:12.23 that was 12 seconds faster then rookie teammate Miriam Stulin (Needham, Mass./ Dana Hall School) and was nine seconds faster then her personal best.
This is the third UAA Athlete of the Week honors that Warwick has received this year, the first two coming as Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for Nov.14, 2011 and Oct. 17, 2011. She earned the award on Oct. 17th by placing 35th overall and 10th among Division III runners at the UAlbany Invitational and by finishing second at the 2011 UMass Dartmouth Shriner's Invitational. Warwick earned her Nov. 14th Athlete of the Week award by earning her first career NCAA Championships berth with a 14th place finish at the New England regional.
Senior Lily Parenteau of Scarborough, Maine was also selected for the Women's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week award. She earned her selection by finishing first in the high jump at the 2011 Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational. She tied a personal best with a 1.63 meter jump. That jump put her in second place overall in the UAA and tied her for the fourth best jump in Division III to date.
Senior Chris Brown of Chelmsford, Mass. was selected as the Men's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week. He earned the distinction by winning the mile run at the 2011 Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational. His time of 4:30.96 is now the best time in the UAA and the sixth best time in all of Division III.
