BOSTON, Mass. -- The Brandeis volleyball team was unable to overcome an early deficit in the first set and couldn't quite hang on to late leads in the next two as the Judges dropped a 3-0 decision to host Emerson College last night, 25-14, 25-23, 25-23. Brandeis falls to 7-11 with the loss, while EC improves to 12-4.

Emerson scored the first eight points of the first set and never looked back as Maddie Breeland had four of her 11 kills on the night. The second set consisted of 15 ties and four lead changes, but Emerson scored the final four points of the set to escape with the win, including two kills by Kelsey Scanlon to break a 23-23 tie. Sophomore outside hitter Si-Si Hensley (Fullerton, Calif./Troy) paced the Judges with four kills in the second set. The third set played out in a similar fashion with nine more ties and four more lead changes, but EC scored five of the final eight points of the match to emerge with the victory.

Hensley led the Judges with 11 kills, tied for match-high honors and a career-best 22 digs. Rookie OH Liz Hood (Albuquerque , N.M./Albuquerque Acad.) added 11 kills, but also committed 12 errors. Sophomore setter Yael Einhorn (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) contributed 29 assists.

In addition to Breeland's 11 kills, matching Hensley and Hood for match-high, Scanlon finished with 10 kills and a team-high 17 digs. Kat Rice had nine kills and three block assists for the hosts.
