Bryson finishes second again at Conn. College as women's x-country takes fifth

WATERFORD, Conn.—The Brandeis men's and women's cross country teams both finished 5th on Saturday at the Connecticut College XC Invitational. The fields featured 21 and 22 total teams, respectively. Individually, Ryan Stender (Amherst, Mass./Amherst) logged his 2nd top three finish in as many races, coming in 3rd overall with an 8K time of 24:48.6 for the men and Emily Bryson (Quincy, Mass./North Qunicy) logged her 4th consecutive top 3 finish in as many races, coming in 2nd overall with a 6K time of 21:40.0 for the women.

FOR THE WOMEN

  • The women finished 5th overall with a total of 197 team points, 84 points behind the 4thplace Desales University and 23 points ahead of 6th place York College (PA).
  • The women's race featured New England ranked #3 Middlebury (#9 Nationally), #4 Tufts (#13), #7 Brandeis, and nationally ranked #6 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and  #34 Desales
  • Emily Bryson covered the 6K course in just 21:40.0, only 15.5 seconds off of the winner from Middlebury College
  • In four meets this season, Emily has finished first, third, and second twice. She has never finished lower than ninth at an Invitational meet
  • Twin sister Julia Bryson (Quincy, Mass./North Quincy) came in second for the team finishing 19th overall with a time of 22:30.8
  • Kyra Shreeve (Northborough, Mass./Algonquin Reg.)Meaghan Barry(Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough), and Danielle Bertaux (Prides Crossing, Mass./Beverly) rounded out the top five with times of 23:31.1, 23:33.6, and 24:30.1

FOR THE MEN

  • The men finished 5th overall with a total of 127 team points, just 13 points behind the 4thplace Tufts University and 10 points ahead of 6th place WPI
  • The men's race featured New England ranked #5 Middlebury (#22 Nationally), #6 Tufts (#30 Nationally), #8 Connecticut College and nationally ranked #14 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps
  • Stender covered the 8K course in 24:48.6, just 8.9 seconds behind the second place finisher from Tufts University
  • This was just Stender's 2nd meet back after returning from injury a week ago
  • Mitchell Hutton (Villa Park, Calif./Villa Park) finished second on the team with a 14thplace finish and a time of 25:17.6
  • Liam Garvey (West Springfield, Mass./West Springfield) came in third on the team with a 19th place finish and 25:22.3 time
  • Quinton Hoey (Watertown, Conn./Watertown) and Brian Sheppard (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson Reg.) rounded out the top five with times of 25:45.3 and 26:46.6
