WALTHAM, Mass. – Throughout the course of the 2017-18 academic year, the University Athletic Association (UAA) will be releasing its 30th Anniversary teams, honoring the best student-athletes from the first 30 years of the Association. Brandeis Cross Country has had 13 alumni named to the anniversary teams.
Leading the way was Women's Cross Country, which had eight members named to the 30-Year team, including 2015 Individual Champion Emily Bryson '19. Two-time UAA champions Jean Olds '92 and Theresa Patten '94 also were selected to the team, as was Brandeis Athletic Hall of Famer Mariko Tansey Holbrook '04. Brandeis was second only to Washington University on the women's cross country 30-year team.
Men's cross country had five members selected to the team, including Individual Champions Mark Harrington '89 (in 1988) and Matthew Griego '04 (in 2001). Additionally, three-time first-team selections Aaron Holley '97, Rusty Nelson '00, and Robert Olson '99 are part of the 30-Year team.
The 30-Year teams were named by assigning two points for each spot on an All-University Athletic Association first team and one point for the second team. Each student-athlete who accumulated five points was selected to the team, as were all players who earned Individual Champion honors.
