Volleyball has successful Homecoming against Gordon and UMass-Dartmouth

WALTHAM, Massachusetts — The Brandeis University volleyball team swept both of its Homecoming matches on Saturday, beating Gordon, 3-0, and UMass-Dartmouth, 3-0. With the wins, the Judges move to 10-6, and finish up their home schedule with a record of 9-3. Gordon is now 11-8, and UMass-Dartmouth is 8-9.

AGAINST GORDON (25-15, 25-22, 25-15)

  • Rookie Marissa Borgert (Blaine, Minn. / Spring Lake Park) had a match-high nine kills; sophomore Emma Bartlett (Duxbury, Mass. / Duxbury) had eight.

  • Juniors Marlee Nork (Chicago, Ill. / Walter Payton College Prep) and Leah Pearlman (El Paso, Texas / El Paso) split setting duties for the Judges. Nork had 14 assists and Pearlman had 12.

  • Junior Yvette Cho (San Diego, Calif. / Rancho Bernardo) had a team-high 13 digs.

  • Cho had four service aces, all of which came at the beginning of the first set as Brandeis jumped out to a 7-0 lead. Borgert had three aces of her own

  • Bartlett was part of six successful blocks for the match, assisting on five and handling the job herself on an additional one.

  • The Judges hit .240 for the match (40K-16E-100TA).

AGAINST UMASS-DARTMOUTH (25-14, 26-24, 25-10 )

  • Junior Zara Platt (Fountain Valley, Calif. / Fountain Valley) was the sole player on both teams to achieve double-digit kills, amassing a career-high 11 kills.

  • Nork led all comers in assists, with 20. Pearlman and freshman Megan Osorio Moran (Hollywood, Fla. / St. Thomas Aquinas) also helped out their teammates, with eight and seven assists, respectively.

  • Cho once again had a team-high 13 digs.

  • The Judges hit .306 for the match (40K-10E-98TA)

UP NEXT

  • Brandeis travels to the University of Chicago next Saturday and Sunday, October 14-15, for UAA Round Robin #2. The Judges will take on Case Western Reserve, Washington University, Carnegie Mellon, and New York University.

  • Gordon takes a trip into the city to play Wentworth on Tuesday, October 10 at 7 PM

  • UMass-Dartmouth travels to take on Eastern Connecticut on Tuesday, October 10 at 7 PM
